Mount Options

We always get asked why a mount is needed, and the answer is simple – to keep your precious art away from the glass!

As temperatures change in a room, tiny amounts of condensation (so small that you probably won’t even see it) form on the inside of the glass. If your print has no mount, it is sitting right up against this moisture, and will, over time, cause the paper to wrinkle and discolour. By adding a mount to the equation, the paper is held away from the glass, preventing this from happening. Over time, the mount may become discoloured, but it’s generally cheaper to replace the mount than it is to replace artwork.

Ever seen a picture that is wrinkling around the edges?

This is known as buckling and is because it has been stuck all the way round the mount, restricting the movement of the print. Paper expands and contracts with different temperatures and humidity levels, therefore it needs to be able to move freely when framed.

Unlike the method explained above, we “hang” your print on an undermount board using small tabs of specialist tape, the window mount is hinged over the top and is not stuck to the print in any way. This allows the print to expand and contract without restriction; your print will remain flat and not wrinkle.

We use only the finest quality tapes and boards to ensure that your print is protected and preserved as best as possible.
Now for the hard part!

Single or double? Black core or white? Textured or plain?

These are all options available when it comes to selecting your mount. And not the only options either!

We use only the highest quality conservation quality Larson Juhl mountboard to help protect and show off your prized artwork or possession. As a mount can make or break the presentation of your final work, it’s a decision that requires a lot of thought, and help, from us.
